ARTLab: Experimentation with Kathleen Montgomery

Saturday, December 6, 2014

1 - 4pm

Mattress Factory

FREE with museum admission

This ARTLab program is inspired by the creative process of artist-in-residence Kathleen Montgomery. Kathleen is inspired by raw materials like wood, wax and mud, and sees beauty in everyday shapes like used bars of soap, buttons and ironing boards. Get in touch with your five senses and experiment with the materials that Kathleen uses in her installation at the Mattress Factory annex gallery on 1414 Monterey Street.

Mini-Factory: LIGHT

10:00AM

Mini-Factory is a FREE interactive learning program designed specifically for children ages 3-5 years old and their parents and/or caregivers that uses contemporary installation art as the basis for enabling parents and educators to explore big ideas.

Young children will discover a variety of themes and installations at the Mattress Factory, participate in story-time related to the theme and work on a collaborative project in our Mini-Factory. The Mini-Factory is a mobile, adaptable pop-up space children can help to build and use to explore new ideas and concepts. Young artists will participate in projects that promote making and sharing.

MINI-FACTORY is FREE but you must RSVP to education [at] mattress [dot] org or at 412.231.3169 because space is limited.

You can sign up for workshops individually. Please let us know if you are unable to attend so we can contact those people on our waiting list. Parents must accompany children and participate in the activities with their child.

Mattress Factory education and community programs are made possible by the generous support of the Allegheny Regional Asset District, Milton & Sally Avery Arts Foundation, Jack Buncher Foundation, Sheila Fortune Foundation, Grable Foundation, Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and Surdna Foundation.
