Installation Lab Workshops
Museum Educators lead students on an hour and a half tour of the museum, followed by lunch either in our museum, lobby, or garden. Afterwards, students engage in a one-hour hands-on art activity in the museum's education studio. Visitors are able to directly respond to and reflect upon the museum's collections and to participate personally in the creative process.
For more information about installation labs, or to discuss which installation lab would best suit your group, please contact the education department at 412-231-3169 x 213 or education@mattress.org

GARDEN BOOK-MAKING Discover the creative process of Winifred Lutz as you explore her living work Garden Installation (ongoing), 1993, located in the three-quarters of an acre adjacent to the Mattress Factory. In addition to her installation, Lutz created an accordion book with images of her Garden, as well as illustrations of plants that one might find in the space. In this installation lab, students have the opportunity to reflect upon their own discovery of the Garden Installation as they create a garden book of their own filled with rubbings, natural plant materials, found objects, and drawings.
