FREE with Museum Admission
Museum Lobby @ 500 Sampsonia Way
Join Betsy Damon, an artist featured in our current Feminist and.... exhibition to explore how water creates form, your body, plants and stones. Learn more through a model natural filtration system and create a piece of work inspired by the important role water plays in our lives. Betsy Damon founded Keepers of the Waters in 1991 to inspire and promote projects that combine art, science, and community involvement to restore, preserve and remediate water sources. She was an artist and activist during the beginnings of the women’s movement and now describes herself as a conceptual-humanist artist, dedicating her art and life to informing and awakening the public consciousness to the need and memory of clean water.
Twice a month, on the first and third Saturdays, visitors are invited to participate in a range of art-making activities that illuminate the creative process of in-residence artists. Projects and materials are developed to complement current and ongoing exhibitions. This program is free with museum admission and highly recommended for individuals or families with children of all ages.
Mattress Factory Education and Community progams are made possible by the generous support from the Allegheny Regional Assets District, Milton & Sally Avery Arts Foundation, Jack Buncher Foundation, Sheila Fortune Foundation, Grable Foundation, Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and Surdna Foundation.
