Factory 14s: Exploding The Book! From Book Arts To Public Art!

Registration required; space is limited
  • Investigate the history of book arts and print media, including artist books, journals, zines, graphic arts, posters, comic books and alternative publications
  • Discover how contemporary artists from around the world use a range of ideas and non-traditional media to create room-sized environments called installations 
  • Experience works by new MF Artists in Residence, including Jason Peters, Natascha Ampunant, Karyn Olivier and Kristine Marx
  • Learn about ways artists integrate ideas and artwork with community issues and social activism
  • Experiment with a variety of bookmaking and binding methods, such as accordion, staple, baggie, found objects and sewn books
  • Work with Pittsburgh-based Artist Educator Mary Tremonte
  • Create and discuss multi-media artworks in order to develop ideas, concepts, artistic approached and personal expression
  • Curate and present original artwork during a public reception at the Mattress Factory
