Schools + Teachers

The Mattress Factory School and Teacher Programs are designed to support critical and flexible thinking. The programs developed by the Education Department compliment the Mattress Factory's mission to serve as an experimental lab for artists to try new materials, explore new spaces, and to take risks. Students and teachers are invited to explore and experiment in order to better understand the challenges and rewards of the artistic process.

The Mattress Factory offers guided group visits for all ages, backgrounds, and interests with a variety of programs to choose from. During tours, trained Museum Educators encourage visitors to creatively observe their surroundings. Museum Educators promote open-ended discussion and reflection, making connections between art and the everyday.

Schools wishing to tailor a Mattress Factory art experience to align with specific curriculum are encouraged to email or call the Education Department directly at 412.231.3169. Together we can design further learning opportunities.
